Me, Myself and I

When I started my degree in Software Engineering, I was this highly motivated girl who moved to a new country full of opportunities to study something she was passionate to learn about.

The first hint of this passion came to me when my father brought home a new computer. It was running the Windows 98 OS at that time. The first software I opened on that was Microsoft Word and typed my name on it. Oh! The satisfaction of seeing my name in that weird machine that looked like a television. After typing my name, words, sentences and making weird geometrical art in Paint, I finally learnt to navigate to the right folder which contained pre-installed games. Playing those games, I grew up and later learnt to install the whole operating system again from a CD. That made me an expert in computers and made my friends and relatives ask me for help whenever they had troubles with their PC. My solution would be installing the OS again and that actually solved the problems, most of which were virus-related.

One of my secrets of being good with technology since I was a kid was that I used to read the user manual like it was a story book and played with all the functions that device had to offer. Thus I later on became the troubleshooting master of mobile phones and other devices among my family members.

I got pretty popular among the aged people in my area since I was the first point of contact if they had trouble with their phones.

Then after I finished my high school, I thought to myself, “Why don’t I learn how these things actually worked and learn the inside magic of them?” And that was the start of my journey towards Software Engineering.

During my degree, I learnt the basics of programming, in-depth knowledge on Java programming languages and bits and pieces of this and that. Which eventually left me clueless while I was doing my thesis which was on the topic ” An Analysis on the privacy and security issues and measuring the effectiveness on Mobile Ad-Blockers on Android”. I learnt and implemented my knowledge simultaneously while doing the thesis. The data collection and research was mostly based on Python programming language. The actual starting of the thesis was scariest than the most scary horror movies ever made and gave me anxiety, depression and nightmares. However, as I went on working on it and with the immense help and support of my supervisors, I learnt to enjoy what I was doing. I will dedicate a whole post about my thesis experience later and will not bore you now in the about-me section.

Finally, towards the end of my degree, I am now a lost girl who cannot find what her passion is relating to Software Engineering. There are so many fields to learn about and to explore before I finally find the thing which excites me like seeing my name for the first time during my first-ever-computer-experience. I want that thrill again, even if it’s for a short time until I find another passion. Thus, I begin my journey of finding my passion back in Software Engineering and will be sharing my thoughts and ideas in this blog.

That’s all about me. 🙂
